After a heartbreaking meniscus injury in Tanzania, knee surgery, and over 3 months of being unable to walk, I missed out on the festive magic of Christmas & Winter Wonderland in London. But my incredible husband wouldn’t let those setbacks keep us from celebrating the winter season.

Osaka to Hiroshima & Miyajima in a Day! 🚄🏯🌊

We started our adventure bright and early, catching the 7 AM Shinkansen from Osaka, having breakfast Ekiben (train bento box) on board, changing in Hiroshima for a local train, and then hopping on a ferry from Miyajimaguchi to the breathtaking Miyajima Island (Itsukushima). ⛩️✨

We spent a magical morning exploring the island, soaking in the stunning views, and indulging in local delicacies (hello, Momiji manju! 🍁).

By afternoon, we headed back to Hiroshima and took a tourist bus to Peace Memorial Park, a place of deep reflection and history. Before wrapping up the day, we couldn’t leave without trying Hiroshima-style Okonomiyaki at Okonomimura—and wow, it was worth it! 🤤🔥

By evening, we were back on the Shinkansen to Osaka, feeling grateful for such an unforgettable day! The best part? All our transport—bullet trains, local trains, ferry, and tourist bus—was covered under the JR Pass.

The best day trips from Osaka, Japan 🇯🇵

If you are visiting Osaka make sure to leave some time to visit places nearby. Find below the list of the best day trips from Osaka by train 🚆 with time duration of the journey.

🦌Nara (40 minutes)
The Deer bowing famous Nara has so much more to offer, with stunning shrines and temple and 15 m high Buddha statue.

🐄Kobe (30 minutes)
Try the world famous Kobe beef, wander around Kobe Harborland or visit one of the biggest Chinatown in Japan

♨️Arima Onsen (1 hour)
Take a break and soak in hot baths of one of the oldest onsens in Japan and charming town of Arima. Many ryokans offer a day pass, which is a great way to get your body relax without spending a night.

🏝️Hiroshima & Miyajima (1h 30m)
The pristine island of Miyajima, located just off the Hiroshima coast, makes for a great day trip. It has deers too, shrines, temples and the best Oysters. Do not leave Hiroshima without trying their style of Okonomiyaki.

🏯Himeji (1 hour)
One of the most beautiful original castles of Japan is located in Himeji and it is well worth visit as it still standing strong for centuries and makes a perfect back drop in Cherry Blossom season

🚗Nagoya (50 minutes)
Buzzing city of Nagoya, shouldn't be missed on a day trip, especially for a fans of science and technology, their Toyota Commemorative Museum of Technology is a must.

All the locations and train journeys above are included in JR pass, including Ferry to Miyajima Island.

Renting a car in Zanzibar?🇹🇿
I haven't found much info on this topic and when asked directly travellers some people were very hesitant to talk about this, so here we go!

Avoid these common mistakes to stay safe and save money! 🚗

1️⃣ Always rent from an established international company for reliability and safety. We chose a local company as it was a little bit cheaper and not only the car was in quite bad condition, we found out that the spare tire was punctured, this is something you definitely wanna check cause there are many “roads” that are really not roads leading to hotels, beaches etc.

2️⃣ Stick to the speed limit – Zanzibar’s roads can be tricky and speed limit is everywhere between 50-80 kmh and they very strict about cause you guessed it right…. Chance for bribes!

3️⃣ Be prepared for frequent police stops – corruption is super common. You need to have a local license from your rental company and have it handy, as soon as they see the car is rental, they will stop you. We were stopped 11x.

4️⃣ Carry two wallets: one with small change and another with a bit more. If stopped and facing the fine, police will ask you for bribe, offer the small change to avoid a large amount and show them you don't have more on you!

The Rock Zanzibar: A bucket-list experience, but here’s what you need to know before you go! 🌊

1️⃣ Booking: You must book online in advance and pay a $10 deposit per person, which is deducted from your final bill. Pro tip: Book during, just before, or just after high tide for the most magical experience—arriving by boat is unforgettable! 🚤

2️⃣ Cost: For 2 juices, 2 starters, 1 main, and a tip, we spent $120 for two people. It’s pricey but worth it for the views and experience.

3️⃣ Dress Code: While the ambiance was lovely for our anniversary dinner, I wasn’t a fan of some tourists dining in just bikinis. It felt out of place for such a unique setting. I think the restaurant should consider a dress code policy to maintain the vibe.

💡 Final Thoughts: The Rock is iconic and definitely worth a visit for the location, but there are better food experiences to explore in Zanzibar if flavor is your priority.

🌴 Paje Beach
During low tide, it turns into a massive sand flat, ideal for kitesurfing and exploring tidal pools. Swimming is best at high tide.

🌴 Jambiani Beach
Offers dramatic low tides that reveal coral beds for walking tours, but be prepared—some areas may expose plastic waste brought in by the ocean.

🌴 Pongwe Beach
A hidden gem with calm, turquoise waters. Low tide reveals a serene, untouched shoreline, perfect for relaxing in peace.

Ever looked at your vision board and wondered how can I make it all come true? 🛫 From dream travels and career goals to healthier habits and personal growth, it’s easy to pin it all up—but how do we turn those dreams into reality?

Here’s what worked for me:

1️⃣ Get specific: Don’t just say ‘travel more’—write down where you want to go and why. The clearer the vision, the easier it is to map the steps.
2️⃣ Plan the steps: Break big goals into small, manageable tasks. Each tiny win brings you closer to the bigger picture.
3️⃣ Stay flexible: Reality won’t always look exactly like the board, and that’s okay. Adapt and keep moving
forward.
4️⃣ Make your vision board in the format that works for you: You need to have it somewhere, where you have all time access to it. For me the idea of having my vision board as wallpaper on my phone, really pushed me to make it happen. So everything you see in the video are my wallpapers for this year.
4️⃣ Celebrate Progress: It’s not all-or-nothing. Every milestone deserves recognition!

Maybe 2025 is the year to stop dreaming and start doing. 💪 Let’s make those vision boards more than just pretty pictures on a wall—let’s make them real. 🌟
